Population
At 30 June, Christchurch had an estimate resident population of 360,500.

Geography
Christchurch City is located on the east of New Zealand’s South Island. Neighbouring territorial authorities are the Waimakariri, Selwyn and Banks Peninsula districts.
Christchurch has the second largest population of all New Zealand territorial authorities after Auckland and is the largest urban centre in the South Island.

Christchurch City has a land area of 45,240 hectares.

Climate
Christchurch has a mild climate. The beautiful New Brighton and Sumner beaches are a very popular way to cool off and relax over the summer, while winter sees Cantabrians heading to the hills to enjoy some of the great ski fields!
Summer in New Zealand runs from December through February and winter from June through August.
