Dunedin

Population
With 114,342 people, Dunedin City ranks 8th in size out of the 74 Territorial Authorities in New Zealand

Geography
Dunedin is located on the south east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is a city nestled in tree-clad hills at the head of a spectacular harbour. Dunedin is the main centre of the region of Otago. With the local government amalgamation of 1989 the City of Dunedin now covers approximately 3,350 km2 or 335,000 hectares.

Climate
There is no rainy season to dampen the spirit of Dunedin. The city receives less than 800mm of rainfall each year. Instead we experience extended twilight in summer, rich autumnal tones full of texture, romantic winter nights nestled in front of open fires and the colour of springtime with the city budding and blooming before your very eyes.

Temperatures in August range from a low of 4 to an average of 13 degree Celsius, while during February temperatures hover around the low to mid 20s.

Economy
Our City is the financial and commercial hub of Otago and excels in key industries such as agriculture, biotechnology, education, engineering, manufacturing, information communication technology, fashion, food processing, forestry and more. As the main business and trading centre we boast well-developed national and international port facilities and air links.
