Jiansu University

Jiangsu University was founded by combining the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (a key university), Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Teachers’ College with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China in August, 2001. It is a teaching-and-research-oriented comprehensive university, strong in engineering disciplines. It is one of the first group of universities that offer doctoral programs and one of the Top 100 Universities in China.

Currently, Jiangsu University has 26 schools offering 83 undergraduate degree programs in 9 academic fields: Engineering, Science, Medicine, Literature, Economics, Law, Management, Education and History. The university has 8 post-doctoral research stations, 9 primary (or first-level) disciplines for doctoral degrees, 42 Ph.D. programs, 167 master’s programs, 3 national key academic disciplines, 1 of which is under cultivation, 2 disciplines with special advantages in Jiangsu Province, 4 Jiangsu provincial key primary disciplines, 13 Jiangsu provincial key disciplines, 7 categories of professional master degrees, and 26 fields for ME.

It has a faculty of 4,700 members, of whom 2,000 are fulltime teachers, 330 professors, 190 PhD supervisors, 8 specially-employed academicians, 1 specially-employed professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program, two winners of National Fund for Outstanding Youth, 7 professors enlisted in the New Century Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project of China, 1 leading scientist of Jiangsu Provincial 333 High-level Talents Cultivation Project. The current total enrollment of full-time students amounts to over 42,000, including7, 200 postgraduates, 32,000 undergraduates, 200 international students and 2,600 students for further education.

The university has established long-term cooperative relationship with 44 universities and educational or research institutions in America, England, Germany, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Russia, France, Italy, Korea, India, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, Ghana and Denmark. It has jointly founded Confucian Institute with Karl Franzens University Graz (Austria), jointly offers master programs with Magdeburg University (Germany), and jointly runs pilot international courses class with Leeds University (England).

At present, seizing the strategic opportunity for higher education reform and development with the strategic foresight of “Be oriented toward the modernization, the world and the future”, Jiangsu University is implementing Four Strategies: strengthening the university by talents, characteristic development, international cooperation and uniting concerted efforts to enhance its educational qualities and promote its distinctive academic features.
